COLQUITT CO., GA (WALB) - The daughter of the elderly woman attacked by three dogs is speaking out about the brutal incident.
Mary Ellison, known by friends and family as Beth, is still recovering in the hospital. Now her children want justice for their 84-year-old mother.
Ellison's daughter Elizabeth Ranew said she is still angry, two weeks after her mother was almost eaten alive by three dogs.
Now they're working with lawyers to make sure the dogs' owner will be charged, and their mother can return home without the fear of another attack.
"To see her go through that. You can't imagine. There's just no way to put it into words what she's going through," said Ranew.
Ranew recalled the day her brother called to tell her what happened.
"He just said, 'It's really, really bad. She's bad. I don't think she's going to make it,'" said Ranew.
Ranew said her mother was working in her yard, when three dogs belonging to her neighbor Jerry McDonald, jumped on her and started mauling her.
"She said, 'I saw them, and I turned around to walk back to walk int he other direction.' She said, 'They jumped on my back and that was it,'" said Ranew.
Neighbors thankfully came before it was too late, scaring the dogs off with a machete and a piece of wood.
They said the dogs had already severely injured her.
Ranew said 80 percent of her mother's scalp is gone, and she has multiple gashes.
Ranew is now working with her lawyer Jason Ferguson with Morgan and Morgan, to make sure the dogs never return to her mother's neighborhood.
"I'm hoping that he is punished for not taking care of his animals and of course that the dogs are put down, which they have not been as of yet," said Ranew.
Ranew said she's shocked to hear McDonald wants to fight to get the dogs back. An upcoming court hearing will determine the fate of the animals.
Ranew said her mother will remain in the hospital for the next five weeks, at the least.
