LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -

Autopsies are underway at the state crime lab in Macon, on the bodies of a woman and a little boy found dead in an apartment in Leesburg Wednesday afternoon.

GBI Special Agent in Charge Danny Jackson said mother and son, Sarah Alling, 24, and her son Jabari Alling, 7, were found dead of apparent gun shot wounds.

Investigators said Alling's sister came to the apartment to do a welfare check and found them dead in a public housing complex on Kinchafoonee Drive around 3:40 p.m. to check on the family.

GBI Special Agent in Charge Danny Jackson said, "It's a long, tedious process sometimes of interviewing all the family members and the neighbors to try to determine all those facts."

The Director of the Lee County Housing Authority was at the scene Wednesday afternoon. "It's a very sad, sad event that's occurred, most of us don't understand why it's occurred and what's happening," said Dan McCarthy. "And they're still investigating to find out exactly what's going on. But anytime there's a loss of life, it's devastating for everybody."
