VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

After citizen complaints, investigators with the Special Operations Division of the Sheriff’s Office raided an apartment on Saturday.

Willie Smith, Junior, 36, was arrested after a search warrant was executed at his Lakeland Avenue apartment, during which cocaine, marijuana, and other items commonly used for the distribution of drugs were recovered.

"The citizen information is what launches the vast majority of cases that we initiate. Without that citizen interaction and citizen information a lot of cases would never get off the floor," said Captain Stryde Jones.

Willie Smith has been charged with sale of cocaine, and faces additional charges since his illegal activities took place in a public housing area and near a recreational facility.

Smith is charged with:

Possession of marijuana
Possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute
Possession of cocaine within 1000’ of a public housing area
Possession of tools for the commission of a crime
Sale of cocaine

Smith appeared in the Lowndes County Magistrate Court on Monday and remains in jail.

Sheriff Chris Prine thanked the citizens who came forward with the information that launched this investigation. "We say it a lot, but citizen information is what normally begins and pushes investigative cases. This case is a great example of the cooperation it takes between citizens and law enforcement to make our community a safer place."

Anyone with information on this or any case can contact the Sheriff’s Office at 671-2950. Anonymous tips can be provided at 671-2985 or on-line at
