ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dozens of people who live in Albany public housing met with city leaders Tuesday afternoon to learn about programs in the works.
The Albany Housing Authority received a Byrne Criminal Justice Grant and is teaming with Albany Police to increase police presence in McIntosh Homes.
They're urging residents to help police fight crime.
Albany Housing Authority Executive Director Dan McCarthy said "There sometimes is a hesitancy of the residents to welcome them. We don't want the police here. But these residents have said no. Yes we do want the police here. We need your help, and are willing to work with her."
Housing officials will re-apply for a grant to build new units on West Society.
They should find out in November if they'll get that money to replace older homes at McIntosh Homes.
