A man who does home repair work in the Albany and Lee County areas was arrested, and his wife faces charges for fraud, in Cobb and Gwinnett Counties.
Pedro Henriquez, age 37, has been charged with two felony counts of Insurance Fraud, one felony count of Conspiracy to commit a crime and one count of failing to provide workers’ compensation insurance for his employees.
Arrest warrants have also been issued in Gwinnett County for Henriquez’s wife, Marilith Garcia-Sandoval. Sandoval, age 35 has been charged with one felony count of Insurance Fraud and one felony count of Conspiracy to commit a crime.
Although Pedro Henriquez lives in Gwinnett County, he and his crew travel to the Albany and Leesburg area each week to perform roof work. The Enforcement Division’s investigation says that Pedro Henriquez and Marilith Garcia-Sandoval conspired together to give false and misleading information to an insurance agent in 2014 for the purpose of purchasing workers’ compensation insurance coverage.
At the time of obtaining the insurance coverage, Marilith Garcia-Sandoval claimed to be the owner of a roofing company with no employees, but Pedro Henriquez actually owns the business.
The Enforcement Division’s investigation also alleges that Pedro Henriquez gave false and misleading information to an insurance agent in 2015 for the purpose of purchasing workers’ compensation insurance coverage. Pedro Henriquez intentionally underreported his number of employees and the actual payroll for his roofing business during a premium audit in March of 2016.
The state thinks that Henriquez and Garcia-Sandoval have defrauded several insurance companies out of over $1 million in workers’ compensation premiums.
On April 04, 2016, the Enforcement Division with the assistance of Lee County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Pedro Henriquez in Lee County, Georgia without incident. Pedro Henriquez was subsequently transferred to the Gwinnett County Jail where he remains without bond. Marilith Garcia-Sandoval is expected to surrender to authorities.
This case is still under active investigation and more arrests of additional roofing contractors in the Southwest Georgia area are anticipated.
