MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

Moultrie police officers spent their Sunday outside spending time with kids in the community.

Children and their families flew kites with cops.

The event was part of the police department's goal to interact with the community outside of police matters.

"What I'm really trying to focus on is allowing individuals in the community to see officers outside of the police car, that they are human, that they can be down to earth. They're not always there in a bad situation," said Administrative Coordinator Melinda Lee.

The Moultrie Police Department has other events planned for the upcoming months to interact with more people in the area.
