LOWNDES CO., GA (WALB) -

The Georgia State Patrol is issuing an alert that I-75 north between mileposts 22 and 23, Lowndes County, will have a road closure through the weekend.

The northbound outside lane will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday, April 14, to 5 a.m. Friday, April 15.

The lane will then reopen and the same section of I-75 north will close again at 9 p.m. Friday, April 15, and remain closed until 5 a.m. Monday, April 18.

All work is weather permitting.

The Weigh in Motion project involves installing weigh scales in outside interstate lanes approximately 3,000 feet upstream of each of the existing 19 weigh stations to prescreen commercial vehicles. It is expected to minimize the time that commercial vehicles have to wait at inspection stations.

Corporal Chris Kelch of the Georgia State Patrol Post 31 says there have have been wrecks in the past due to the traffic, which was backed up as far as mile.

Drivers should be aware of slow moving or stopped traffic, to avoid any collisions.
