CALHOUN CO., GA (WALB) - Experts with the National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-2 tornado touched down overnight as storms rolled through South Georgia.
They said preliminary reports indicated the storm had peak winds of 125-130 mph.
Initial damage north and west of Edison, GA was largely limited to downed or snapped trees, the service said. More significant damage happened near Dickey, where a home's exterior brick wall collapsed and debris blown 100-200 yards from the structure.
Even more significant damage occurred further east along County Road 24, where a double-wide mobile home was completely destroyed with the debris blown more than 50 yards away.
Additional information was expected later Thursday evening.
