ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Investigators say vagrants, possibly trying to stay warm, set a fire that burned seven cars in South Albany.

Firefighters were called to Albany Used Auto Parts in the 1400 block of South Slappey Boulevard about 1:15 Wednesday morning.

They found seven cars on fire in the closed salvage yard.

Investigators found a hole cut in the fence and evidence that a vagrant started a fire inside a Lincoln Town Car.
     It spread to other cars.
Workers say the fire and vagrants are a surprise to them.

Mechanic Jeffrey Burch said "Never. This is the first time that they've ever done this.  I've never seen anybody ever mess with nothing out here."

Investigators are going over surveillance video from the business to see if they can identify who set the fire.
