ASHBURN, GA (WALB) -

The City of Ashburn is about to have a new police chief. Current Ashburn Investigator Clifford Jordan, the only internal candidate for the post, will be introduced to the city commission tonight.

Jordan, who  recently came over from Dooly County, was among three candidates remaining for the position.

ABAC police instructor Shane Benefield and former school resource officer and police officer Joseph Ezekiel were the other finalists.

Mayor Sedric Carithers says all three would have made great additions to the department. He says bringing in a chief who will build a bond with the community is most important.

“We want people to look up to police officers. Police officers aren't bad. They're out here to help the public and be good by the people. And we want to bridge that gap,” said Carithers.

The interim chief is returning is today. Former Chief Joe Saxon resigned in 2014.
