QUITMAN, GA (WALB) -

About 10:15 Saturday night, a Florida man was killed in a wreck in Brooks County, according to the Georgia State Patrol Post 31, in Valdosta.

TFC Jeremy Swain responded to the single vehicle accident on Dry Lake Road near Simpson Road in Brooks County.

A white 2007 Ford F250 driven by 39 year old Curtis Lanier James of Tallahassee, FL was traveling east on Dry Lake Road, too fast for conditions.

James ran off the south shoulder of the road as he was trying to go around a curve. He over corrected, causing the vehicle to rotate counterclockwise and cross over Dry Lake Road.

The vehicle traveled off the north shoulder of the roadway and struck a tree, rolled over, and landed on its top.

James, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced deceased on scene by Brooks County Coroner Mike Miller.

Next of kin was notified by Florida Highway Patrol in Tallahassee.
