ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Friday, dozens of people gathered at the Billy C. Black building to honor Albany State's history and founder Joseph Winthrop Holley.
The event was part of their Founder's Day celebration.
Guest speaker and alumni Dr. Carmen Camille McGee, talked about the importance of education, and the accomplishments of Joseph W. Holley, who started one of the first black colleges in the south.
"I work with people from all walks of life. I work with people who are janitors. I work with people who are CEOs of corporations," said Dr. McGee. "But having an educational and knowledge allows me to converse with everyone."
Friday also wrapped up ASU's week of giving where alumni, students, and faculty were invited to contribute funds for scholarships.
