Straight-line winds have been reported to cause heavy structural damage in Berrien County. At about 5 p.m., straight-line winds traveled between two residences and passed over Southern Recycling Industries.
According to officials, the first residence suffered structural damage to the roof with leaks due to limbs and the heavy winds. The Red Cross assisted the family.
The second reported residence had the roof peeled off to the rafters. The family was prepared with another place to relocate.
Southern Recycling Industries was reported to have received structural damage.
According to the National Severe Storms Laboratory, damage from severe thunderstorm winds account for half of all severe reports in the lower 48 states.
Damage from straight-line winds is also known to be more common than tornado damage.
Winds were also reported to reach just east of Nashville, GA.
