ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

For the second day in a row, city officials discovered an illegal dump site in east Albany, illustrating why they say it's an ongoing crime problem.

Friday morning, city Commissioner Jon Howard received a tip about dumped furniture on Kieve Avenue, right off the Liberty Expressway.

Several pieces of furniture, a smashed television set, and plastic tubs were thrown in the ditch, even though the culprit could have taken them to the landfill for free.

"They could have saved time, energy, and money if whoever did this would have just gone to the landfill today or tomorrow," said Howard.

Code enforcement officers are now investigating, and will charge the person responsible.

Sanitation workers cleaned up the dump site within the hour.

Albany city officials say if you see illegal dumping get a tag number, call 311, and report it.
