ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Students at Albany State University say it was nice to hear alumni talk about the merger process during Friday's Founder's Day program.
A few weeks ago, dozens of students staged a "walk out" after announcements of a new mission statement was released that didn't specifically include the HBCU term.
The Student Government Association president says students didn't feel their voices were heard, so it was nice to see others were concerned as well.
"To feel the camaraderie in today's program and to see the alumni, talk with them, hear their expressions, hear Dr. Carmen Mcgee and her experiences, it was great to hear that they were concerned as well," said SGA President Laurentiis Gaines.
Gaines also says the students would still like to see the mission statement changed.
