ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dougherty County grand jurors indict 22-year old Aveontae Grier for two counts of aggravated assault in connection with an armed robbery that left his suspected partner dead.
Prosecutors say in April 2014 Grier and 19-year old Richard Soilberry attempted to rob two men sitting in a car on Barnesdale Way. One of those victims pulled a knife and stabbed and killed Soilberry in self-defense.
Dougherty D.A. Greg Edwards said "As described in the indictment, this was part of a robbery. And allegations are that Grier, this charged defendant, was allegedly part of the robbery."
Edwards said Grier was charged with aggravated assault, which in Georgia includes attempted armed robbery charges.
