PELHAM, GA (WALB) - Folks in Pelham are taking action to prevent seniors in the community from being victims of scams.
Pelham Banking Company and the Pelham Chamber of Commerce hosted a Lunch and Learn session Wednesday. More than 60 seniors got information on how to identify common phone, computer, and mail scams.
Pelham police say they've seen an uptick in reports of scams, which often originate outside of the country.
"They're very hard crimes to solve and usually the victims are not able to get restitution because of the fact that these crimes are basically unsolvable," said Assistant Chief Rod Williams of the Pelham Police Dept.
Organizers say elderly people are common targets for scammers because they are more trusting and willing to listen.
If you believe you have been a victim of a scam, you should report it to your local law enforcement agency.
