The dust has settled out in Lee County where the best of the best all-star games wrapped up Saturday night.
Region 1-AAAAAA got the best of 1-AAAA in both basketball games.
The contests had players who were voted to the all-region squads. The girls game tipped off first, and saw class 6A winning in a highly contested game that finished 65-62.
The boys game followed with a much higher-scoring affair. Region 1-AAAAAA won 100-88.
Colquitt County head coach Andy Harden said bragging rights are cool, but its more about the experience.
"Those guys, when they're 30 and 40 remembering these last games that they were able to just not so much stress over playing in games in the regular season it was nice to see them relax and play and have fun," said Harden who coached the winning team.
On the girls side co-region player of the year Audrey McElhaney was just as important to her team's victory as she was to the lady blue devils success this year.
"A lot of folks say I'm fun to watch," stated the Tift County standout. "Because I play hard and I love basketball."
"To see the kids who compete against each other all season get a chance to actually play together," said Lee County coach and event organizer Kirvin Davis. "And kind of get to know each other in a game-type situation. That was great to see."
Davis says he plans to make this an annual event and give 4-A their shot at redemption next year.
