ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Marine Corps Logistics Base hosted a paintball tournament Friday morning, to support a cause very close to them.
The tournament helped raise money for the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society. It's a fund to offer assistance for those in need. Marines say events like this do more than raise money.
Civilian marines, veterans, and active duty Marines geared up for a good cause.
"Just something fun. We want to do something fun. Trying to mix it up a little bit," said John Richard. "It's for the Navy Marine Corps Relief. It's one of our fundraising drives. We're looking to help Marines and their families. So it's a great opportunity to come out and give back.
After going through the rules of the tournament each team member got their guns wandered off into the woods.
A friendly competition with an additional goal of enhancing the comradery between the Marines.
"I got my Marines out here with me and hopefully they'll protect their little Master Sergeant," said Alejandra Medina.
And with every ten minute round money was raised for the Relief Society.
"Say a family has a tragedy, their house burns down or something like that. They could raise money to support them to replenish any of their furniture that got lost, their televisions, food, clothing for their kids, it's awesome," said James Ahearn.
And today was an opportunity to prove much they care for one another.
"Rain or shine, we'll be out here no matter what."
They plan to host additional fundraising events for the Relief Society in the near future.
