ATLANTA, GA (WALB) -

On Monday the Georgia Association of Educators urged the Governor to veto a controversial bill aimed at protecting the rights of people who oppose same-sex marriage.

The GAE President said the bill could lead to business boycotts and lost conventions and events that would hurt the economy and result in less revenue for schools.

The author of the original bill, Senator Greg Kirk from Americus, has scheduled a news conference on Tuesday in Atlanta to talk about it.

He told WALB on Friday that he planned to meet with Governor Deal this week to encourage him to sign the bill into law.
