ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Fire Department responds to a fire at an abandoned house in central Albany.

The fire broke out around 6:30 Monday night in the 600 block of West First Avenue.
Firefighters say flames were shooting 25 feet in the air from the back of the house when they arrived.
They don't believe vagrants were in the home.

"Yeah you do have the worry of maybe a vagrant coming into an abandoned house and setting a fire but right now we don't have any inclination that that’s what's going on here,” said Capt. Kenny Loudenbarger, Albany Fire Department.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause.
