COOK CO., GA (WALB) - Georgia State Patrol troopers responded to an accident involving a semi-trailer truck at about 8:40 a.m. on Interstate 75 in Cook County.
According to officials, 27-year-old Lewis Lopez was driving the semi-trailer truck north on I-75 in the outer lane.
As Lopez attempted to take exit 37 off the interstate, he traveled too fast and struck a guardrail on the drivers side. The semi-trailer truck continued up the embankment, coming to a stop when the cab jumped the guardrail.
Officials were able to get Lopez out of the vehicle. He was sent to the hospital and had no life threatening injuries.
Two wrecker tow trucks were needed to raise the truck and trailer off of the guardrail.
Old Quitman Road was closed off during the accident, and then reopened after getting cleared at about 12:20 p.m.
Lopez was charged with failure to maintain lane, driving too fast for conditions, and a seat belt violation.
Officials say neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the accident.
