ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Crews were gearing up Thursday for a high school robotics competition.

26 teams from around the state will compete in the 2 day competition that starts Friday at the Albany Civic Center.

This year's competition has a medieval theme.

The goal of the game is for the robots to shoot foam ball boulders into the medieval towers.

Officials said the competition prepares students for the work force.

"I was actually on a team back in 2008 and I'm now a mechanical engineer, so this kind of whole thing got me started into engineering. The goal of FIRST is to get students into Science, Technical, Engineering, and Mathmatics driven careers," said Adam Britton, a FIRST Tech advisor.

The free event will be open to the public Thursday at noon and all day Saturday.

WALB's Shannon Wiggins will be the emcee for Saturday's event.
