AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

The new top cop in Americus is ready to get on the job in a week and a half and meet citizens.

Former Albany Deputy Chief Mark Scott was selected as the new chief last week. Scott brings more than 26 years of experience to the department.

He likes what Americus police officers are doing now but said there are a few things he wants to work on and improve.

“When I get there, we're going to be focusing on recruitment, trying to get the numbers where they need to be, retention, making it a place where people want to work and want to retire. We'll be meeting a lot of people in the community,” said Scott.

His first day on the job is March 28th.
