ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Centers for Disease Control put out new guidelines to help fight against prescription pill abuse.
Some of the recommendations include trying therapy before prescribing pain killers, starting with low dosages and monitoring patients closely.
Albany Pharmacist Ed Dozier said it's helpful that the CDC is involved, but these guidelines are already practiced.
He said one thing Georgia and other states have done, is create an online monitoring program.
"For a pharmacist it helps me determine whether a patient is seeing multiple doctors and using multiple pharmacies to get their narcotics. To see who is legit and who might not be," said Dozier.
He said it's easy to use, and it's helpful if they aren't familiar with the patient or the doctor.
