ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Southwest Georgia Regional Airport officials are hoping to make improvements to make the airport more marketable and help attract more jobs to the area.
They hope to demolish some old storage hangars, put in a passenger boarding bridge and get on the Georgia Ready for Accelerated Development list.
That would put 85 acres just south of the airport on the fast track for development.
"If we can become GRAD certified that'll put us at a competitive advantage in luring other types of industries to come and build a facility here," said Transportation Director David Hamilton. So, eventually it could create jobs possibly and we're excited about that."
The Aviation Commission is sending a proposal to the city commission to get on that list.
The transportation director is also working to get bids for the hangar demolition.
