ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A man the Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit calls a "major drug player" in Albany was caught and arrested with thousands of dollars worth of cocaine.
A.D.D.U. says that Leon Cox, who they say is in their 'top 10,' was spotted driving down the street in his 1975 Impala Friday, and drug agents tried to stop him.
They say he took off in the car, but ran head-on into a tree, and jumped out of the car and tried to run, before officers caught him.
The 35-year-old Cox had 152 grams of various forms of cocaine, totaling $18,000 on the street, investigators said.
He also had $2,200 in cash in his pockets. Agents confiscated the car, the drugs, and the money.
He had been out on probation, after two previous felony drug convictions.
Leon Cox is now a three-time drug-arrest felon, and may be sentenced under the "three-strikes" statutes if he is convicted.
