ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

When the driver of a semi truck heard a loud "pop" as he drove down East Oglethorpe Boulevard, he figured he better turn into the Roses Shopping Center parking lot.

It was a wise decision.

Before he could react, the engine caught fire. He tried to contain the fire with an extinguisher, but the cab quickly became fully engulfed in flames.

The tractor part of the rig is a total loss.

The driver is with the W. F. Jackson Distribution Co. based in Sandersville, GA and was hauling a another work truck on a flat bed trailer back to Sandersville.

The driver was not injured.
