DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

A candidate for the Dougherty County Coroner kicked off his campaign Tuesday.

Donchester Johnson announced his candidacy at Greater Grace Church of God in Christ where he is head of security.

He's also a Field lieutenant at the Martin Luther King Memorial Chapel funeral home.

Johnson said he would work closely with families when they lose a loved one.

"The timely response and the responsibility to get information to the family as they need it without having to wait a very long time or an un-bearing time in that time to bring closure to that family at that time," said Johnson.

Johnson has been in the funeral home business for more than 20 years.

Incumbent Michael Fowler plans to kick off his re-election campaign on Wednesday.
