LEE CO., GA (WALB) -

Albany realtors said the housing market in the area is improving.

The Albany Board of Realtors held their annual awards banquet Tuesday night.

They said home sales were up in 2015 and that they expect that growth to continue in 2016.

"The market is rising. Things are showing improvement we can still improve a lot more, but things are looking up and I'm just so grateful especially with having the flooding that we had earlier," said Albany Board of Realtors Executive Director Stephanie Franks.

At Tuesday's banquet, George Rosso was named Realtor of the Year.

Dawn Hobby took home the Rookie of the Year Award, and 45 realtors received Presidential Achievement Awards, signifying sales of $1 million or more in 2015.

The Good Neighborhood Award went to Debbie Fulford for her charity work in the community, and the Professionalism Award went to Leigh Windham, also a RE/MAX realtor.

Ahead of heavy rain showers and winds projected for our area, the Georgia State Patrol said there's not as many travelers on the roads during this holiday weekend.  "So far I think this attributed to the weather and gas prices being so high, it seems that in our area of the state, traffic has been down some," said Trooper Christopher Jewell, GSP Post 40.
