MACON, GA (WALB) - Westwood fell in the state championship game to Gatewood 44-36 Saturday evening in Macon.
Following the game, Westwood's head coach Jenni Smith confirmed it would be her last season at the helm.
She was proud of her team's resilience, but wishes her team would have finished a perfect 30-0 instead of 29-1.
"It's hard because no one likes to lose," said Smith. "And this team doesn't really know how to lose. late in the fourth, they started doubling Callie, and we couldn't really get into our offense. we've been blessed in so many ways. you know, they had a perfect season until about the last three minutes of this ballgame."
Smith coached the Lady Cats' varsity team and won two state championships.
