Strong police presence for downtown festivities

There will be a heavy police presence downtown this weekend.

Officers will be set up at the start and finish lines of the Snickers Marathon Race and at major intersections to make sure runners are safe.

They'll also be present at Mardi Gras and will have some officers out of uniform walking around.

Police say don't leave valuables in your cars.

People will come in and figure people will leave valuables in the car, and they will break into the car. They are coming in and they are going to bring money with them, so someone may end up wanting to rob someone. We'll have a large number of folks working security so we'll have it all covered, says Lt. William Dowdell, with the Albany Police Dept.

They'll also have police patrolling the parking lots of the Civic Center where many runners and volunteers will park.
