ASHBURN, GA (WALB) - Police need your help to identify a burglar who kicked his way into an Ashburn tax office and stole hundreds of dollars. That man also got away with a gun. The owners are now taking safety precautions to make sure this doesn't happen again.
A burglar kicked open the door to the processing room at Liberty Tax Services Wednesday night on East Monroe Avenue.
"Broke in the back door then he came in and broke into our processing room," said Farrah Willey, Franchise Owner. "He kicked the door in with his left foot."
The burglar's foot print remains on the door. The burglar with his face covered and wearing gloves ransacks the room, opening all of the file cabinets.
He found the owner's pistol in the top file cabinet and the cash box with hundreds of dollars inside.
"He finally finds the cash box, he sticks it in his left arm and runs out the door," said Willey. "He was out the door by 11:15."
The camera catches him as he runs out the door. Thursday, workers were busy fixing the backdoor.
"We're fixing the back door and we're also going to put another deadbolt inside the interior door to make it more harder for them to bust through the door," said Willey.
Willey hopes viewers will recognize the burglar's baggy clothes and pair of Nike shoes that he had on.
"Well I just hope that they can catch him so he doesn't break into anybody else's business and I know we won't be having anything else for him to steal on the premises," said Willey.
Willey says she's contacting surrounding businesses checking with their surveillance systems to see if the burglar is on tape. The Ashburn Police Department is investigating.
