CRISP CO., GA (WALB) -

The Crisp County Sheriff's Office is educating people on how to use guns safely.

On Thursday, they hosted a Firearms Safety class.

Representatives from the District Attorney's office explained the legalities of using a firearm in self-defense and how to carry a firearm legally.

Law enforcers also demonstrated how to load and unload a handgun properly.

"There's a growing demand for firearms and everybody is looking to own a handgun these days and with that many people carrying handguns we want to make sure that they carry it safely, know how to operate the weapon that they're carrying and how to safely use the weapon should they need to," said Sgt. Michael Fraser with the Crisp County Sheriff's Office.

Fraser said that if you're searching the internet for safety guidelines make sure you get the information from a reputable source such as the National Rifle Association.
