DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

A Dougherty County man is indicted for firing shots at three police officers in December, leading to a tense standoff in a neighborhood.
William Spence, Jr. was indicted for 7 counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, reckless conduct, and firearm charges.

December 17th Police were searching for stolen property near Pinebluff Road when prosecutors say Spence fired shots at one Dougherty County and two Albany police officers.
The entire neighborhood was shut down for hours as dozens of officers searched for Spence.

Dougherty District Attorney Greg Edwards said "This is a pretty serious case.  Again, gunfire being allegedly fired at police officers, is a top priority in terms of us addressing what we need to do getting to the truth."

Police say one of the bullets fired by Spence went through a neighbor's home, but no one was hurt.
He could face 5 to 20 years in prison for each aggravated assault charge if he's convicted.
