ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A 12-year old child is being called a hero after helping 13-people escape from a house fire early Tuesday  morning.

The fire started on the stove about 5 Tuesday  morning in the home in the 16-hundred block of Sunny Lane.
Coretta Grier says she usually turns on the eye about 4:30 to warm the kitchen and then goes back to sleep.
About 5 A-M  Grier's daughter Ykedria woke up and spotted the fire while 8 other children and 4 adults slept."

"Ykedria Grier, the one that normally gets up at 5:30or 6 o-clock, she got up and she got everybody out of the house," said Grier.  "The house was on fire and stuff.  We just want to thank Ykedria Grier for getting us all up."
No one was injured.
Firefighters say damage to the home was confined mainly to the kitchen.
