ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Firefighters are investigating a car fire.

About 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, firefighters were called to Silica Drive in East Albany to a report of a car fire.

Firefighters said the car was engulfed in flames when they found it.

Crews said the car was a GMC SUV, possibly an Acadia.

The tag was melted.

Investigators said that Silica Drive is an area well known for stolen cars dumped by thieves.

"Numerous times vehicles are abandoned there along with tires and other debris.  It is a desolate road within the city," said Investigator Sam Harris with the Albany Fire Department.

The fire is still being investigated.

Anyone with information on this car fire is asked to call CrimeSTOPPERS at 436-TIPS.
