SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -

Sylvester Police are working to identify a body found in a ditch Monday afternoon. Sylvester Police say the body could be that of a man who was reported missing over the weekend.

Police and GBI agents canvassed the scene near a ditch in the 100 block of Peach Avenue.
They believe a relative of the man called 911 about the body just before 2 o'clock.
Police are now looking to see if the unidentified body is that of a man who was reported missing on Saturday.

"The GBI will be helping to see if there's any evidence or any type of foul play or anything involved and also they will be assisting us in the investigation,” said Lt. Kenneth Washington, Sylvester Police Department.

Police have not released the name of the man who was reported missing.
They say they do believe the man found in the ditch today is in his early 20's.
They have not discussed any potential cause of death.

Sylvester Police are asking the public to come forward with any information they may have regarding this case.
