Choirs combine for Black History Month celebration

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Choirs combined their voices tonight for Black History Month.
 The Albany Civil Rights Institute held its third Annual Combined Choirs Concert at First Freewill Baptist Church.
 The Freedom Singers were joined by the Junior Freedom Singers and choirs from public and private schools in Dougherty County.

"Music and food have a way of transcending race, gender, and ethnicity,” said Frank Wilson, Albany Civil Rights Institute Executive Director. “We thought it would be a wonderful way to bring the community together and show that when you're focused on a single purpose you don't have a chance to look at each other, you look at the problem in front of you."  

More than 80 students from 8 schools took part in the concert.
