ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Students at Lake Park Elementary released balloons in honor of Brittany Kerfoot--a second grade teacher killed in a plane crash on January 30th.

Co-workers and family members joined the students at the event Thursday afternoon. The school dedicated a small tree and a marble plaque to Kerfoot.

"It's always difficult to lose a staff member but today we were hoping that this would be a day that we could just remember and be joyful and rejoice and keep her spirit alive," said Lake Park Elementary principal Kenosha Coleman.

Federal investigators are still looking into the crash at Albany's airport that claimed Kerfoot's life.

Former State Patrol pilot Kevin Coalson and business owner Britt Knight also died in the crash.
