DNR: Coffee pond death was accidental

Sheriff Doyle Wooten Sheriff Doyle Wooten
COFFEE CO., GA (WALB) -

Coffee County Sheriff Doyle Wooten says a man who was found in pond died of accidental drowning, and no foul play is suspected.

On Monday February 22, Deputies and Detectives responded to a call of a boat capsized in a pond in the area of Hillsway Drive.

Fire and Rescue officers found the body of a man near the capsized boat. The victim has been identified as Ralph Grady,  65, a resident of the area.

Because the body was found in the water and a boat was involved, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources responded.

After an investigation by Coffee County Detectives and Georgia DNR it was determined that Grady was alone in the boat, and that there was nothing to suggest foul play was involved.

The cause of death is Accidental Drowning.

"Our sympathy and prayers go out to the family and friends of Mr. Grady. We ask that you also keep the family and friends in your prayers," said Sheriff Wooten.
