DECATUR CO., GA (WALB) -

Two pit bulls from the Bainbridge Decatur County Humane Society are returned safely to the shelter.

Officials arrested Paul Nelson, they say he took the dogs because he owned of one of them.

Humane Society workers say the pit bulls were accessible because they're kept in outdoor cages. They can't afford another place for them to stay.

"We have a building that is not adequate to house all of our population and we have land that's been donated for a new shelter but we're in fund raising mode, and we need a new shelter desperately," said Susan Ralph, President of the Humane Society.

Humane Society workers hope to raise enough money for a safer place to keep the dogs, to avoid a dangerous situation like this happening again.
