THOMAS CO., GA (WALB) -

An update on a deadly crash in Thomas County yesterday. A little girl and her father from Troy, Alabama were killed.

40 year-old Bobby Edwards and 6 year-old Laci Edwards died.

They were thrown from the family's Chevy Suburban when it collided with a Thomas County Prison van on Highway 84.

Edwards' wife and 14 year old daughter remain in critical condition. His uncle suffered less serious injuries.

"Its hard to separate your feelings to do your job when you're dealing with a child sometimes as a law enforcement officer or first responder you have to detach yourself from the situation to do your job but when there's a child involved it makes it very difficult," said Sergeant Tommy Peeples.

The driver of the prison van did not have any injuries and could face charges.

The state patrol's specialized collision reconstruction team is continuing to investigate.
