Good math and science teachers hard to find

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County School officials say it's not easy to find good math and science teachers to teach upper level course in high school.

Albany High School students in an AP statistics class are now being taught by video conference.

Their teacher recently transferred to Monroe High.

That teacher is now leading his old class by video because there's not another teacher at Albany High qualified to teach it.

“Math and science teachers are highly coveted in the teaching profession right now. They are sought after and highly recruited. And it's no different here in the Dougherty County School system. Good math and science teachers are worth their weight in gold,” says J.D. Sumner, with Dougherty County Schools.

AP courses allow high school students to earn college credits if they score well enough on an end of course exam.
