ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Chehaw Park officials said that they have restructured their administrative assistant position and hired financial experts to look for deficiencies in their system after a former employee stole from the park.
Angela Rivera pled guilty to using Chehaw credit cards to buy nearly $47,000 worth of merchandise for herself.
Chehaw officials believe the transition from city control to being their own entity led to struggles with financial controls.
"We're going to do the best that we can. We want to be a piece of this community that people trust. That people believe in us and believe in the mission that we are trying to accomplish," said Chehaw Executive Director Don Meeks.
Rivera paid back all the stolen money.
On Monday she was sentenced to 10 years probation and 240 hours of community service.
