SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) - Women in Sylvester now know what to do in the event of an emergency on the road, all thanks to a crash course held Saturday morning.
Sunbelt Ford in Sylvester provided a hands-on experience for women. Their program, "From Lipstick to Dipstick", taught them how to take care of their vehicles.
"It's kind of a play on words and it's not to make fun of women but it's to let women know that they can get under the hood," said Marketing Manager Deborah Smith. "They can ask questions."
Women make up a large number of employees at the car dealership.
"We're lucky we have a service manager who's a woman and a service adviser who's a woman. We have people in parts who are women. So you can kind of better relate to the questions about what's going on under your car," said Smith.
Workers taught the women how to measure their tire pressure, jump start their battery, check fluids, and what do when there is an emergency.
"Different oil levels, transmission fluids, where things go where," said Smith.
Smith says it's important for women to know what their paying for.
"Sometimes it's not good just to get the cheaper parts because it's not going to last as long," said Smith." It's important to know why you're paying for quality and that's what we want to show. Why quality is worth paying for."
Also making sure that they aren't risking their lives or others is important.
"If you're putting your life and your childrens' life and everybody in the vehicle, you kind of need to know what you're riding on," said Smith.
Sunbelt Ford in Sylvester will hold another free clinic for men titled, "Rears, Gears, and Deer" in April.
