Driver dies after Cook Co. wreck

COOK CO., GA (WALB) -

One driver died after a two car wreck in Cook County Saturday afternoon.

Georgia State Patrol troopers, EMS, and Adel fire officials responded to wreck on Old Union Road and Highway 37 West in Cook County Saturday at about 1 p.m.

According to officials, a full-size sedan driven by Rosa Simmons was traveling east on Hwy 37 towards Adel. A pickup truck, driven by Ronald Bennett, was traveling north on Old Union Road and approached a stop sign. Bennett's truck was then T-boned by Simmons' sedan while attempting to cross Hwy 37.

The truck was then knocked over onto its side and into a ditch. Bennett was trapped inside his vehicle until fire officials were able to cut the windshield off to extricate him.

Both Bennett and Simmons were transported to the South Georgia Medical Center.

Bennett died later Saturday night from his injuries.

Simmons has been released from the hospital.
