AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

Americus police officers are looking for a man who jumped out and ran, following a traffic stop Wednesday night.

An officer went to pull over the driver for speeding down North Jackson Street, in the wrong lane. The driver took off, and eventually stopped at the dead end at Tom Hall Circle, and jumped out and ran.

Police say the car is owned by a woman, but a man was driving.

"We are actively searching for this individual, checking with the registered owner and the owner of the vehicle, to see if they can give us any information as to who may have been driving the vehicle. Presently, they have not given us any information as to who was driving the vehicle," said Chief Herman Lamar.

Lamar reminds drivers that charges related to running are much more serious than traffic violations.
