Georgia Senior US Senator weighs in on VA

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

Georgia Senior US Senator Johnny Isakson says improvements to the VA are an important issue in Washington.

Isakson is the chairman of the VA Committee.

They passed Veterans Choice last year which allows veterans to get care from a private doctor at no cost if they cannot schedule a timely appointment with the VA.

Isakson says the government has a simple message for veterans.

"We understand that mental health and ability to get mental health in a quick, timely fashion is critically important. We're working to make sure that all those things take place and they're accessible to all veterans. We care. It's not just an idle promise," said Senator Isakson.

Isakson says the veterans choice program allowed more than 7 and a half million more veterans visit the doctor.
