THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

A South Georgia man was arrested on Valentines Day in Thomasville after walking away from a car accident.

It happened on the intersection of Clanton and Sally street.

Officials say Jefferey Smith had several opened beer cans and a bottle of liquor that was almost empty in the car.

Investigators say when police arrived, Smith and his girlfriend walked away from the car accident.

"Was located a short distance away approximately a couple blocks away from the accident scene by the other officers after the description was given and his information was obtained from his registration he was then detained and brought back to the scene of the accident, " said Police Officer Captain Maurice Holmes.

Smith was arrested with a DUI, driving with a suspended license, not having insurance, and failure to stop at an accident.
